Largest Dude Ranch East of the Mississippi!

We took our new travel trailer on her first weekend trip to the largest dude ranch East of the Mississippi! River Ranch RV Resort is located next to the Westgate River Ranch Resort. They say the birthplace of the American Cowboy is right here in Florida! Makes a lot of sense when you think about it. Haven’t you noticed all the cow pastures everywhere? The RV sites were fantastic and the resort was still a lot of fun despite the pandemic. We can’t believe we never went to a rodeo before, what a blast!

VIDEO: Road Trip Through The South

The video is finally here! Watch our great New Years road trip through the south! We had a fantastic time and are already planning our next trip back. The cabin needs to be furnished and we have a few pieces, between out storage unit and Rob’s mom, to make it a little more comfortable. Maybe this spring?

Honky Tonkin Our Way Into 2020

What a morning it was on the 1st of January 2020. There was challah french toast, mimosas and oh so yummy bacon. It’s great to have family all over when you love to travel. Not only do you get a chance to visit them, but they will always have an air mattress for you to sleep on. Luckily they were just a 4 hour drive from the cabin and about 20 minutes from Nashville.

IMG_1410.jpeg

We had one place in mind when heading to Broadway, Kid Rock’s Big Ass Honky Tonk and Rock & Roll Steakhouse. We saw it on Facebook a while back and laughed so hard at the name while we both said we just had to go there someday. Neither of us have been to Nashville in well over 15 years and the last time I went, I was definitely too young to be hanging out around there so we really didn’t know what to expect.

IMG_1461.jpeg

Nashville is a big crazy city that my aunt and uncle didn’t even want to come with us. That’s why it was such a surprise to actually find a street parking spot right off of Broadway and 3rd. I can’t get over how pretty the buildings are that even the post office was gorgeous. You don’t get buildings like that in South Florida. I began to reminisce when I was a child growing up in Massachusetts where everything was old and beautiful like the library, my old middle school, the court house etc. We walked over to Broadway from our parking spot and immediately noticed that most of the honky tonks were named after all the current famous country singers. Rob and I are fans of country music so it was pretty exciting hearing all the familiar songs coming out of each building with their doors and windows open as well as blaring music coming from all the rooftop bars. Most of the bars had several stories and bands on each floor. It was country music heaven.

IMG_1465.jpegIMG_1432.jpeg

IMG_1447.jpeg

We started on one end of the Street and did our best to stop in and listen to a song in every honky tonk but it was New Year’s Day so you can imagine how packed it was. That’s the amazing thing about music city, you will not find a bad cover band anywhere, like most of us have to endure back wherever we come from. Each bar had really talented artists with signs advertising their social media, just trying to get their big break.

IMG_1423IMG_1424IMG_1425IMG_1427IMG_1428IMG_1429IMG_1430IMG_1431IMG_1436IMG_1437IMG_1438IMG_1439IMG_1440IMG_1441IMG_1442IMG_1444IMG_1445IMG_1446IMG_1449IMG_1450IMG_1451IMG_1452IMG_1453IMG_1454IMG_1455IMG_1456IMG_1457IMG_1468

We can’t speak for the food because the wait everywhere was much too long and the beer was much to basic for us beer snobs (at least in the bars we were able to reach). As the sun began to set our Florida blood grew colder and our tummy’s more hangry. My uncle laughed when we confirmed we’d be back for dinner, “too cold eh?” “Yup” we responded.

IMG_1459IMG_1464IMG_4616

Kenny Chesney is supposed to be playing a concert in Tennessee this June so maybe that will be a better time to come back and get to hang out on some of those roof top bars. We’re hoping we can save up for that trip because there is talk about coming back up to the cabin in the spring time so why not make it one big trip?

A great video to come now that we are back home with some wifi.

Driving to Nashville

How we love this mountain air. We can breath so much easier up here. It’s too bad we’re so far from a cruise port and a boat ramp to launch Luna or we would be up here in a heart beat! I pictured us being those snow bird couples that contribute to the winter traffic and spend the whole winter in south FL and leave the moment the north starts to warm up. I think this morning we woke up closer to 11am but we weren’t in that much of a rush so we took the time to have a wonderful breakfast. I think that’s my favorite part of being on vacation especially when we are up here.

IMG_4492

We start our 4 1/2 hour drive to the Nashville, TN area around noon. It’s New Years Eve so as long as we make it to my Aunt’s before dinner time then we were solid. I heard there was going to be prime grade meat on the menu so maybe there was a little rush. Going anywhere around these parts isn’t just hopping on i95 and heading toward your destination. Most of the driving is through small towns and the largest roads are maybe 4 lanes. But, we’re not complaining because the sites were something to see. Even the rest areas had awesome views of the mountains and lakes.

img_4519

There was zero reception through the Cherokee National Forest but that was perfectly fine because I kept us entertained by constantly telling Rob to pull over. I wanted to take pictures of all the gorgeous views. That area is big for white water rafting so on top of all the businesses (that were closed for the season), there were tons of scenic overlooks to pull over and take in the sites.

IMG_4530IMG_4533.JPG

When we made it through McCaysville we saw something that only still existed in movies, a street evangelist. I had to pull down the window and record in hopes that I could hear him preach as we drove by. Rob was defiantly laughing at me but I’ve only seen that in movies, so it was exciting for me to see that in person.

IMG_4480

We arrived at my Aunt’s around 5pm. Just in time for my uncle to get home and put me to work in the kitchen.

The menu

Herb and garlic roasted potatoes

Bacon brussles sprouts

Filet Mignon au Poivre

Creme brule

and lots of GREAT wine!

There was even our very own home made note drop that one of the kids made. One of their traditions was to eat 12 grapes each representing the 12 months to come. When you get a sour grape, that month will be a bad one. Luckily for me, all my grapes were sweet.

A very happy and prosperous 2020 to all of you!

A day trip to Nashville happens next so be sure to follow us to get notified! And a great video to come once we get back home with some wifi.

Spending the Day in Blairsville and Blue Ridge Georgia

Day 2 in the North Georgia Mountains started a little later than we liked. For some reason when we are on a long vacation (excluding a cruise) we immediately adjust our sleep schedule to falling asleep sleep at 2am and waking up at 10am. But that’s why we go to the cabin at the end of a one lane road that’s 2 hours away from any big city, so we can slow down and quiet our minds. We take our time and enjoy not having to rush through everything to get to the next task. It was nice to enjoy breakfast at the table and not standing over the stove rushing out the door.

I remembered this place off the main road that we always passed by going to and from the cabin. I would always say “we have to stop there and check it out” every time we passed it. I’m glad we waited until now to finally visit because we wouldn’t have appreciated it as much as we did this day. The place is called Sleepy Hollow and the artist creates beautiful hand made whimsical fairy and hobbit style houses from small birdhouse size houses to large treehouse size playhouses.

As we were getting dressed deciding what to do and bundling up because our Florida blood couldn’t handle the 40 degree weather, I decided to Google the place before we stopped in. As I read the story about Sleepy Hollow and the artist, I became ecstatic when I found out he is a former Disney imagineer! He was also an artist who contributed to Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch as well as well as Universal Orlando resort and Dollywood to name a few. I called right away to confirm they were open and will allow us to come with our camera and meet him.

We only planned to stop in for an hour or so to get some footage and say hello to former Disney Imagineer, Art Millican but it turned into a 2 1/2 hour visit just chatting it up, discussing passion for the arts and our love for Disney. It turns out his home town is not too far from my home town in Massachusetts. He asked if I was and artist and I said no… I corrected myself and talked about my mediums and how I would consider myself one if I had more time to practice. Call it being too humble but I felt so unworthy to call myself an artist in the presence of an imagineer. They are celebrities in my book.

It was such an amazing visit that the entire drive to Blue Ridge I was trying to convince Rob to move up to the cabin and see how we could convince Art to hire me so I can be an apprentice and just learn anything I can.

Blue Ridge is just about 30 min up the road from Sleepy Hollow. We were starting to get a little hungry and remembered that the town has a quaint downtown area with shops and restaurants. The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway starts there as well. Unfortunately we won’t be taking that trip anytime soon because of the price (about $44 to $79 per person) but we hear it’s a lovely ride.

We had a good time exploring all the different shops and discovered a nice IPA named Tropicalia from a brewery in Athens, GA called Creature Comforts Brewing Co. We were not able to have dinner due to the sheer volume of people. They decided to stop taking orders after we got our beer and when we left, another restaurant had a wait of over 2 1/2 hours to get a table.

I settled for some fresh pecan flavored fudge and we made our way back to the cabin for a home cooked meal.

Stay tuned for our drive to Nashville on New Years Eve. Now I really understand that it’s not the destination but the ride because it was a beautiful 4 hour drive there.

And a great video to come once we get back home with some wifi.

See you on our next adventure!

Hello North Georgia

We arrived to the cabin at close to 1:30am this morning with some Cheetos and the only fast food restaurant we found open at 11:15pm, Taco Bell, in our bellies. Luckily we left the place tidy, when we left last year, that setting the bed and cleaning up the master bathroom wasn’t too horrible.

A good 8 hours of sleep was just enough to re-energize for a full day of cleaning. We had to move the dehumidifier from room to room in between cleaning all the surfaces and wiping the windows. But after our inspection of the exterior, we discovered since we don’t come up here enough, carpenter bees and flying squirrels did a good amount of damage to the beams on the porch.

Luckily you will find a good amount of nice small town folk that will come to your house after dinner to take a look and prepare a quote for the repairs. The wife came along with him and she gave me all sorts of great advice for the area.

We always make sure to stop in for dinner at least once to Rib Country for the smoked brisket and sweet tea. That’s a local BBQ chain here and even though they raised the prices significantly since last year, it’s still a really great meal.

Tomorrow’s plan is unknown. I find that when we plan too much it never turns out to be as exciting. There are a couple of chores we need to finish since we’re here but we are on the search for a fun spot to ring in the new year. There’s a fancy place up the way that charges $50 per person that doesn’t include an open bar and another place that is a fun spot with great drink specials however this bar is in a city who’s cops are the ones who sit outside of a bar that watch you go in and wait for you to leave so they can get you with a DUI. My aunt in the Nashville area invited us their way and talked about all the fun things to see there. Neither of us have been in well over 10 years so we are definitely considering. Visiting an area you don’t go to often is like taking a cruise. You only have a small amount of time to make the most of it and there are so many options!

We hardly took any pictures or videos of today because it was a work day but our batteries are charged and ready to see what tomorrow has to offer!

Stay tuned and find out what adventure we take! For now, some TV and a beer in front of the fireplace.

Good night y’all!

Where does time go?

Life has been a bit crazy for us this last year. Our Disney groups, blog and YouTube have been a bit demanding with all the new lands and rides opening up requiring us to spend more of our weekends at the parks (It’s such a tragedy…we know). Most importantly, Rob’s mother has been going through some health issues which we are praying that the surgery she had last week will be the end of it.

On a lighter note, Rob’s mother is home recovering, our tree is decorated with all the ornaments we’ve been collecting wherever we have traveled to and we are on in the car as I write heading to the cabin in Georgia! We’re thinking making the cabin our home base and go explore the south.

Luna is on the trailer waiting for us to scrape those barnacles off and put her back in. The boat ramp we use is going to be under a complete renovation and rebuild until next year I believe so, we’ve been hesitant to launch her and go through the hassle of running back and fourth to a further ramp.

We are writing up those resolutions and one of the important ones is to join a gym together… and actually go! We have some lifestyle adjustments we need to make and still have time to watch Baby Yoda every Friday night! Putting Luna back in might happen close to the end of January and we foresee a cruise coming up soon (we hope).

We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! We’re not sure where this road trip will take us but we’re excited to find out. Stay connected, we brought all of our equipment and are on a tight budget so we gotta get real creative with this trip! Can’t wait!

See you on our next adventure!

Exploring the Smokey Mountains

We spent Christmas in the Great Smokey Mountains this year. A change of pace of what we are used to every year with the parties and tons of Apple’s family around. This year we decided to have a quiet holiday in Rob’s mother’s cabin in the North Georgia mountains. We spent 6 days there exploring and sightseeing. We attempted to head to Pigeon Forge Tennessee but found the road there was closed do to bad weather. We made it as far as Cherokee, NC and explored a bit before heading back. A few years ago we decided to give each other experiences instead of expensive gifts so this year we did horseback riding. It was Apple’s first time on a horse and it was a really nice hour long trail ride through the mountains at Brasstown Valley Resort just outside Blairsville, GA.

Dinner was at Rib Country most nights. A local chain restaurant that has really good BBQ. We didn’t take any picture or film cuz we were to busy stuffing our faces lol. Watch the video below!
