Boutique Campsites in North Florida are Coming To Life

The Captain’s Hideaway is coming together! All the hard work over the past several months is bearing fruit and we couldn’t be more excited. Working on our property has definitely been a labor of love and we apologize for taking so long to get the next video out to y’all but please enjoy our next progress video of building out our acre of land/RV home base and installing the septic tank. We accomplished a lot and even saved an injured hawk.

We are catching up on all the videos so expect to not have to wait months before the next video is released! Sad to say that we haven’t been out on the water in a while but that will absolutely change soon! Scalloping season is starting and we are going to try something new.

Land Clearing our RV Home Base and Private Campsites in North Florida

There has been a lot of progress made at our little campground in North Florida. We’ve been practically full timing it in our tiny travel trailer for the past few months, only going back to South Florida for Easter with the family and another trip to pick up the dog. But we are not there yet… This video is about this neat machine called a forestry mulcher and how it just grinds anything in its path. Greg Taylor did an amazing job clearing the land in one day and we were able to keep a lot of the trees we wanted while leaving the roots from the others making the ground more sturdy to drive on, since the roots were all still there.

We’re calling the place The Captain’s Hideaway. While we may be a bit behind editing these videos, you can see the progress by following The Captain’s Hideaway social media and mailing list!

Land Shopping for our RV Home Base and Private Campsites in North Florida

We were absolutely sick of never being able to find a campsite and we’re not talking about one of those cookie cutter parking lot campgrounds where they’ve chopped every single tree down. We’re talking something more like a Florida state park. So, we decided to go buy our own piece of property with no zoning restrictions on RVs. This is the beginning of our RV home base story.

Join us as we seek out our own private RV homestead where we look to establish our home base and additional private RV campsites that will be perfect for the full time RV lifestyle. We are looking for RV property without zoning restrictions for RVs and travel trailers, where we won’t have to have a traditional building on the property. A RV home base camp in North Florida seems like a great location, there’s not a lot of restrictions on full time RV property depending on the county. So come along as we search for the perfect piece of land to build the Captain’s Hideaway private RV campsites.

It has been a rough couple of months for us with everything we had going on with fixing up the property and losing our dog but our next video is finally here! And more to come! This is the beginning of our RV home base story. We hope you enjoy and look out for more videos coming soon.

One Month Later

It has been about a month since we put this video up and we have to say this is a great cooler. We bring it back and forth to the property in North Florida, take it with us on Costco runs, and found a nice spot on the port settee fastened with bungie chords in the sailboat. With a price tag of something less than a Yeti, you can’t deny this is a good buy!

Camping at Lake Louisa State Park and a New Truck!

We went camping at Lake Louisa State Park in central Florida, but first we need a new tow vehicle. Come along on this adventure as we explore the area, discover some good eats and taste some local craft beer.

Watch the video here

Introducing our new pickup truck, affectionately named “Snow White”! We picked her up just in time for our camping trip to Lake Louisa State Park which we booked with a group of friends right when we bought the travel trailer.

Lake Louisa State Park is located in Clermont, Florida and just a short drive to Disney. You really don’t feel like you are still in Florida when you pull into the state park. There are hills everywhere and I don’t think we even saw a palm tree throughout the whole park.

The price was right at just about $55 for the whole weekend but be sure to bring ant killer and bug spray. Most of the sites only had electrical hook up but there was a dump station on the way out so keep that in mind when planning your visit there.

Downtown Clermont was a very nice area full of cute shops and a few market place type spots like The Downtown Exchange, which is where we visited. It was full of little booths of various yummy eats, gifts and a craft beer bar downstairs.

Flora-Bama and Fort Morgan – RV Road Trip – Part 3

Join us on our final leg of this road trip adventure through the South. We visit the the world famous Flora-Bama, Fort Morgan and Buc-ee’s!

Watch the video here

Wow this one took forever to finish but it is finally here!

We stayed in Alabama for 3 days instead of 2 but it still ended to quick! I have to say that the Florida Panhandle was definitely our favorite spot. The weather was perfect, the white sandy beaches were amazing and the whole off the beaten path beach life was exactly what we were looking for. We even got to make our “pilgrimage” (lol) to the Flora-Bama. In case you haven’t realized by now, we are Kenny Chesney fans and one of his songs is called Flora-Bama. That’s the only reason we heard of this place!

Check the video out! The sites were lovely and the food and drink were enjoyable.

Here are some of the local craft beers we really liked.

Spending the Day in Blairsville and Blue Ridge Georgia

Day 2 in the North Georgia Mountains started a little later than we liked. For some reason when we are on a long vacation (excluding a cruise) we immediately adjust our sleep schedule to falling asleep sleep at 2am and waking up at 10am. But that’s why we go to the cabin at the end of a one lane road that’s 2 hours away from any big city, so we can slow down and quiet our minds. We take our time and enjoy not having to rush through everything to get to the next task. It was nice to enjoy breakfast at the table and not standing over the stove rushing out the door.

I remembered this place off the main road that we always passed by going to and from the cabin. I would always say “we have to stop there and check it out” every time we passed it. I’m glad we waited until now to finally visit because we wouldn’t have appreciated it as much as we did this day. The place is called Sleepy Hollow and the artist creates beautiful hand made whimsical fairy and hobbit style houses from small birdhouse size houses to large treehouse size playhouses.

As we were getting dressed deciding what to do and bundling up because our Florida blood couldn’t handle the 40 degree weather, I decided to Google the place before we stopped in. As I read the story about Sleepy Hollow and the artist, I became ecstatic when I found out he is a former Disney imagineer! He was also an artist who contributed to Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch as well as well as Universal Orlando resort and Dollywood to name a few. I called right away to confirm they were open and will allow us to come with our camera and meet him.

We only planned to stop in for an hour or so to get some footage and say hello to former Disney Imagineer, Art Millican but it turned into a 2 1/2 hour visit just chatting it up, discussing passion for the arts and our love for Disney. It turns out his home town is not too far from my home town in Massachusetts. He asked if I was and artist and I said no… I corrected myself and talked about my mediums and how I would consider myself one if I had more time to practice. Call it being too humble but I felt so unworthy to call myself an artist in the presence of an imagineer. They are celebrities in my book.

It was such an amazing visit that the entire drive to Blue Ridge I was trying to convince Rob to move up to the cabin and see how we could convince Art to hire me so I can be an apprentice and just learn anything I can.

Blue Ridge is just about 30 min up the road from Sleepy Hollow. We were starting to get a little hungry and remembered that the town has a quaint downtown area with shops and restaurants. The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway starts there as well. Unfortunately we won’t be taking that trip anytime soon because of the price (about $44 to $79 per person) but we hear it’s a lovely ride.

We had a good time exploring all the different shops and discovered a nice IPA named Tropicalia from a brewery in Athens, GA called Creature Comforts Brewing Co. We were not able to have dinner due to the sheer volume of people. They decided to stop taking orders after we got our beer and when we left, another restaurant had a wait of over 2 1/2 hours to get a table.

I settled for some fresh pecan flavored fudge and we made our way back to the cabin for a home cooked meal.

Stay tuned for our drive to Nashville on New Years Eve. Now I really understand that it’s not the destination but the ride because it was a beautiful 4 hour drive there.

And a great video to come once we get back home with some wifi.

Where does time go?

Life has been a bit crazy for us this last year. Our Disney groups, blog and YouTube have been a bit demanding with all the new lands and rides opening up requiring us to spend more of our weekends at the parks (It’s such a tragedy…we know). Most importantly, Rob’s mother has been going through some health issues which we are praying that the surgery she had last week will be the end of it.

On a lighter note, Rob’s mother is home recovering, our tree is decorated with all the ornaments we’ve been collecting wherever we have traveled to and we are on in the car as I write heading to the cabin in Georgia! We’re thinking making the cabin our home base and go explore the south.

Luna is on the trailer waiting for us to scrape those barnacles off and put her back in. The boat ramp we use is going to be under a complete renovation and rebuild until next year I believe so, we’ve been hesitant to launch her and go through the hassle of running back and fourth to a further ramp.

We are writing up those resolutions and one of the important ones is to join a gym together… and actually go! We have some lifestyle adjustments we need to make and still have time to watch Baby Yoda every Friday night! Putting Luna back in might happen close to the end of January and we foresee a cruise coming up soon (we hope).

We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! We’re not sure where this road trip will take us but we’re excited to find out. Stay connected, we brought all of our equipment and are on a tight budget so we gotta get real creative with this trip! Can’t wait!

Goodbye Summer, Hello Florida Fall!

We’re very excited to announce that the summer is just about done and we’re taking a  little break from all the Disney shenanigans for a little while. If you are not aware, we are Annual Passholders, and run some of the largest Disney Annual Passholder Facebook groups as well as a Disney YouTube Channel. So if your into that then click here www.cruisingtheparks.com

A couple weekends ago we went down to The Keys for a weekend adventure at Florida Bay Outfitters where they were kind enough to let us take out one of their Hobie’s. Look out for that post, it’s coming soon. The video is already up on YouTube.

IMG_0810.jpeg

We finally put Luna in and went sailing after about 7 whole months of her just sitting in our yard! Rob’s mother joined us for what turned out to be a perfect Sunday afternoon. Stay tuned for that post.

IMG_3091

Also, we toured a couple of the Sea Shepherds ships. Those videos will be published over the next few days. We love what they do for our oceans and were very excited to see the ships and hear all about it.

IMG_3134

We will also be putting out a video and post about what to do with your old sails. I’m excited for that one!

We are extremely excited for the upcoming months and are even more excited you all are here to join us.

I know it’s a bit early but I just designed this Christmas anchor and wanted to share our Teespring store with you.

Happy One Year Blogiversary!

Our one year anniversary for the Adventures of Apple and Rob is near and we would first and foremost like to say thank you! We are extremely grateful to you all for your continued support.

As our lives change and our experiences change us, we are eager to see what this year will bring us. Last year brought us many changes, a lot of firsts, some difficulty and numerous celebrations. We got married, met a lot of new people, learned how to sail, changed careers (well Apple just went back to her original career), and most of all did a lot of traveling, eating and drinking! Cheers to that!

Tonight we embark on our first adventure of the year. We were invited to sail on the Jungle Queen Riverboat for a dinner cruise. This is something that we have been dying to check do for a while now and we can’t wait!

It’s a new year, so its time for a fresh channel trailer! Hope you like it.

Pirates on the New River

We didn’t know what the plan was for this weekend. That’s usually how we do it. If you plan it then you get disappointed when it doesn’t go your way.

We just point in a direction and see what we can find. your out in the water with your love, a cooler full of booze, exploring a new side of the places you only knew from land, and there is always a place you can tie up to grab a bite. The pirate ship is mainly for kids but they do offer a booze cruise and we are totally going to check it out one day.

Racing Stars & Stripes in Mexico – America’s Cup Sailing Yacht

Oasis of the Seas, May 2018, Day 6

12 METRE CHALLENGE AMERICA’S CUP RACING EXPERIENCE

We are not on our Catalina 22 sailboat this time. We have upgraded for this trip!

Our second time in Cozumel Mexico was amazing! We raced a retired 1987 America’s IMG_2899.JPGCup racing yachts. I can’t begin to explain how much fun this trip was. They let us run the winches and everything! The fact that we have been introduced to the world of sailing already and know a lot of the terminology was really helpful and made the race that much more exciting. Trip advisor ranks this tour as one of the top things to do in Cozumel and we agree.

We ended our day with some shrimp fajitas, some more beer and some shopping in the port. I bought overpriced Mexican chocolate for the family. Thankfully it was good.

Jerk Chicken in Jamaica

The last time we were in Jamaica I really wanted jerk chicken! Since I am (was) a chef, one of the most important part of my travel experience is to get to eat local food. I especially would love to try food I’ve tried already back home so I can compare to know what really is close to authentic. We met a lady named Mariesha who was nice enough to drive us around and bring us to Duns River Falls. I expressed how much I want to eat something local and begged for it not to be anything touristy. She started with Jamaican beef patties and then a place that makes pudding, which is moist cake that is made in old tire rims on the side of the street. After she picked us back up from the Duns River Falls it was time to go to Scotchies for this jerk chicken she insisted was the best on the island. Unfortunately we arrived to late because a big tour bus just wiped them clean out of chicken. Imagine my disappointment because that was the stop I was looking forward to the most!

This trip was our second chance to finally get this Scotchys everyone was talking about. Yes, we made sure to tell this story to our Jamaican friends/acquaintances and they all agree it’s good food. We messaged Mariesha on Facebook and her fiance took us around this time.

Our first stop along the way was a cafe on the side of the road that had beautiful views of the beach on the second story. The next stop was the historic Richmond Hill Inn in Montego Bay. In the 1700’s it was the property of the Dewars family, you know the Scotch whisky. It also hosts several beautiful pieces from the late Barrington Watson, Jamaica’s most renowned artist. We just might have had a destination wedding if I knew about this place sooner!

Before returning to the Port of Falmouth, we finally got to indulge in some authentic jerk chicken and Red Stripe beer at Scotchies. We didn’t stop at just jerk chicken though. There was jerk pork, chicken wings, and some friend bread too. I now get why it’s called Scotchies. It’s because scotch bonnet peppers is what their house sauce is made of. So hot but oh so good.

After tuning down several offers to buy marijuana we made it back to the port with 45 min to spare so we did a little shopping at the wood carving booths. I have to say I am pretty happy with what Rob got me. One wood carving was a large mahi-mahi made out of mahogany and the other was a sweet little palm tree with 2 hearts. He had the gentleman carve our initials in each heart at “Jamaica 2018” at the bottom.

Don’t forget to follow and subscribe. Rob and I go to our next port of call and race sailboats in Mexico!

Welcome to Labadee, Haiti

Day 3 of our 7 day Royal Caribbean cruise on the Oasis of the Seas.

Our first port of call was Labadee Haiti, Royal Caribbean’s private island. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect after the several weeks we had full of rain in South Florida.

Our first stop was at the local Artisan Market where we looked around and chatted with a few of the locals. Rob of course had to put on a heavy southern accent  as he spoke with them. To be quite honest, a lot of the merchandise in the shops were the same and probably mostly from china.

We made our way to the Dragon’s Tail Coaster. I didn’t get an all day pass this year mainly because they only had one left. I insisted that Rob take it so I can just sit in the water and do absolutely nothing while he was riding it but he still got me one ride (so sweet). The coaster is a nice balance between getting to see the gorgeous views of the island and a some adrenaline at times. You get to control the speed of your cart. The only negative is the ride is over in just a couple of minutes if you go with no breaks.

We finally remembered that there was a floating bar in one of the beaches so naturally we made our way there. They had a drink called the Labadoozy and it was delicious! We missed the lunch buffet hanging out under the tiki umbrellas while we made some new friends.

Take a look at the video below and see for yourself!
